Drawversity

Drawversity is a life model class that focuses on introducing more black, asian and minority ethnics (BAME) to the world of life modelling. During the session a new model will pose for the group, choosing their own pose lengths, guided and supported by Jade. These sessions are clothed, giving artists the opportunity to draw the clothed figure, or portrait, with the option of the model posing unclothed if they prefer. The session is open to all abilities & levels of experience and Jade will be on hand to offer any help you need.

“In this new session we celebrate the diversity of our city, a session is conceived and run by life model, artist and session leader Jade Hylton.  The aim of these new, regular sessions is to increase the diversity of the life modelling community by giving people who might not have considered themselves potential life models an opportunity to get more involved. Although we like to have a wide a range of models to posing at Draw we are limited by the people who put themselves forward and the greatest barrier to that is self selection: people who would like to model for life classes do not always apply because they are worried they don’t fit into an imagined ideal. In drawing classes our ideal is diversity and Jade has actively sought out potential models who might not have put themselves forward without encouragement.”

Drawversity with Brighton Woman’s Centre at Brighton Dome

Drawversity is a life model class that focuses on introducing more people in the BPOC community to the world of life modelling.

The class is structured to tutor the model so you – as the artist – can get an insight to what it is to be a Life model.

This will be guided and supported by your session leader Jade Hylton.

The session is open to all abilities and levels of experience and Jade will be on hand to offer any help you need.

Drawversity For The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The 21st of March is The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The day commemorates the lives of those who died to fight for democracy and equal human rights for all in South Africa during apartheid, an institutionally racist system built upon racial discrimination. We have come a long way globally in the fight towards racial equality, but there is still a long way to go.

That being said,  blackness and being a person of colour is not simply synonymous with pain and suffering there is also so much joy and beauty to our experiences and that is something that is also worth celebrating. So, to mark this day there is going to be a live drawing class.
Date & Time: Tuesday 21st March, 12-2pm
Location: The Garden room, St Wilfrid’s Hospice, Eastbourne.
Model: Scarlett
