Drawversity // Making changes

I was setting up for my class in the Hove studio, it was June 2024 and I was catching up with the lovely Steve and Mel who come to my class every month at Fine Feather Wellness. Steve started telling me about an exhibition he had been to recently, Bella Hoare’s A Different Green exhibition at Tower Wharf in London. Steve had picked up a program for me, and as he passed it to me he said ” I went to this exhibition, the art were portraits and life drawings with a lot of people of colour, with what you’re doing with Drawversity, I thought it might interest you.”

As I flicked through the book, I could see familiar faces, friends and models most of whom had come from and started as a Drawversity model, I mean even the front page was a Drawversity model. As the pages fanned from left to right my eyes lit up, I looked at Steve and said “It’s working, Drawversity is diversifying the people we see in art and exhibitions! it’s working!” I was seeing a representation of myself, I was connecting in a way I had never done before, It was such a proud moment, such an achievement.

The artwork had been created from the Drawversity reference photos on the Draw Brighton Patreon, If you would like to support the models and artists I would highly recommend signing up to the Draw Brighton Patreon. Not only do you get to be a part of a supportive and encouraging group, no matter what level you are at – we all have to start somewhere – but Draw is all about supporting artists and models alike. Plus you get access to thousands of photos to draw from; portraits, full body, nude, clothed, costumed.. I mean it’s the Draw tutors and artists who direct these shoots so you have an incredible diverse library to choose from. As well as online classes almost daily and so so much more.

Check out the Drawversity page for in person classes and come and draw with me!
